Aquatic Invaders

Duration | 1 Year 7 Months

I helped to spread awareness of aquatic invasive species by volunteering my time at the Adirondack Watershed Institute, in upstate New York. I helped to create a mobile video game that is available to play on Itch.io for PC and Mobile.

While working on this project, I learned many important skills, such as:

  • Time Management
  • Balancing multiple projects at once
  • Avoiding and dealing with burn out
  • Working with a small team

As lead programmer, I was responsible for the majority of the code base, and I helped the other programmer when needed. I also implemented the assets when they were ready, along with setting up the animations.

This game is similar, both in function and style, to Plague Inc. The main difference is the player isn’t a pathogen, but an invasive species. The goal of the game is to make your species of aquatic plant or animal take over the waterways and be the only one in the Adirondack region.

The idea behind the game is to have a fun and engaging way for players to learn about water based invasive species and how quickly they spread throughout a region. The Adirondack Watershed Institute provided the information and graphics used in the game.
