Aquatic Invaders

Engine | Godot

Team Size | Three

Duration | 1 Year 7 Months

I am helping to spread awareness of aquatic invasive species by volunteering my time at the Adirondack Watershed Institute, in upstate New York. I am helping to create a mobile video game that will be available for download.

While working on this project, I have learned many important skills, such as:

  • Time Management
  • Balancing multiple projects at once
  • Avoiding and dealing with burn out
  • Working with a small team

As lead programmer, I am responsible for the majority of the code base, and I help the other programmer when the need arises. I also implement the assets when they are ready, along with setting up the animation. Pretty much anything somewhat complicated gets delegated to me.

This game is going to be very similar, both in function and style, to Plague Inc. The main difference is the player will not be a pathogen but an invasive species. The goal of the game will not be to kill all humans, but to make your species of aquatic plant or animal take over the waterways and be the only one in the Adirondack region.

The idea behind the game is to have a fun way for players to learn about water based invasive species and how quickly they spread throughout a region. The Adirondack Watershed Institute is providing the information and graphics used in the game.
